The scholarships are easy to apply for, and provide a great opportunity to attend the course for free. You can choose to apply for as many scholarships as you wish- one, two or more. Please note the terms of individual scholarships as some cover the full cost of tuition and accommodation whilst others cover tuition only. We would like to say a big thank you to the scholarship providers both past and present for their generosity and support. Good luck!
The following scholarships for 2017 will be open for applications from 1st March onwards.ABA Educational Trust
Between The Covers
Swedish Association of Antiquarian Bookdealers
The Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association (PBFA)
ABA Educational Trust
The ABA Educational Trust works to support a continued awareness of the heritage of the book and the printed word. It aims to promote and support education and research across the wide field of rare book studies and antiquarian bookselling and to foster the entry of younger booksellers into the trade. The ABA Educational Trust is delighted then to provide a scholarship to the York Antiquarian Book Seminar 2017. The Trust scholarship includes the full course fee and four nights accommodation at the seminar venue, The Bar Convent.
Applications are to be made in writing to Educational Trustee Justin Croft at email@example.com no later than 31th May 2017. The scholarship will be awarded to the candidate that best demonstrates a combination of enthusiasm, potential and need.
Details for the two 2017 Abebooks scholarships are to be confirmed by early spring 2017. In 2016, the scholarship places were allocated by prize draw. Whilst the 2017 details are being confirmed, why not read the 2016 information below to see what was required?
Launched in 1996, AbeBooks is the online marketplace where you can buy new, used, rare and out-of-print books, as well as textbooks. It connects buyers with thousands of professional booksellers around the world and millions of books are listed for sale.
Are you thinking of becoming a bookseller? Or, have you just started to sell books?
AbeBooks.com will stage a contest that begins on April 29th and closes on May 18th 2016. Two places at the York Antiquarian Book Seminar 2016 will be the prizes.
The scholarship covers full course fees for two successful candidates, worth £425 each.

Between The CoversWe asked Mr. Congalton, former President of The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers for a few lines on how he would like his generous scholarship presented. His response was:
" I want it to be called 'The Jonathan Kearns Award, sponsored by Between the Covers Rare Books', chosen at the discretion of the faculty but preferably presented to a ginger personage with an outlandish vocabulary and questionable fashion sense. The Award shall consist of the cost of tuition, board, and one novelty cocktail, just because I like the idea of someone sipping a Brandy Alexander while Justin Croft gives his lecture on collational formulae"
Applications for the cocktail must be made to Jonathan Kearns in person. The scholarship applications should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org with York Antiquarian Book Seminar as the email subject.
Applications to arrive no later than Friday 31st May, with winners notified as soon after Monday 12th June as possible.
Bibliopolis provides complete e-commerce website design development, technical support, and hosting as well as database services for the used, out-of-print and antiquarian bookseller. We are devoted to connecting discerning buyers to professional booksellers online without middlemen crashing the party.
Bibliopolis is pleased to offer a full scholarship for the 2017 York Antiquarian Book Seminar. In addition to the full tuition fees, the winner will receive a downloadable version of the inventory management software, BookHound 8. Applicants should submit essays stating their reasons for wishing to attend. Entries must be received no later than midnight, Sunday 31st July, 2016. The winner will be notified as soon after August 14th as possible. Kindly send essays via email with the subject line "Bibliopolis Scholarship" to: email@example.com
The scholarship covers full course fees for the successful candidate, worth £475.
Swedish Association of Antiquarian BookdealersThe scholarship of the Swedish Association of Antiquarian Booksellers covers the coursefee, travel, and accommodation for one recipient.
The Swedish Association, being comparably small, is unable to arrange an event such as this, and therefore views it as a great privilege to be able in this way to give young and prospective Swedish booksellers the opportunity to take part of the knowledge and perspectives provided by the York Antiquarian Book Seminar. We consider this an investment in the future of our trade in Sweden.
Candidates are nominated by members of the Swedish Association of Antiquarian Booksellers before June 1, and the winner is selected from these by the committee of the association.
For any questions, please contact the Swedish Association of Antiquarian Booksellers at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association (PBFA)
The PBFA is delighted to support the fourth York Antiquarian Book Seminar. The applicant may either be a current PBFA member, or a would-be PBFA member who potentially fulfils the requirements for PBFA membership.
(Any bookseller may apply to the PBFA if they have been trading for two years and can provide the names of two existing Full Members of the orginisation who know them, have traded with them for at least two years, and are willing to sponsor their application).
The PBFA scholarship to aspiring booksellers will be to the value of £475 and will cover the seminar course fees.
